Midland University Launches Project Management and Corporate Entrepreneurship Certificates

Friday, April 28, 2017

Midland University today announced the addition of two certificate programs facilitated by the MBA program, Project Management and Corporate Entrepreneurship. The launch of these programs is a response to the ever-changing needs of the Omaha business community, building upon the continued success of the MBA program.

“We are excited to expand our relationship with the Omaha business community via these new certificates,” Midland President Jody Horner said. “Students and business partners alike have helped us develop programs in response to workforce needs, and we look forward to seeing their growth.”

Both certificates launch in June and are currently accepting applications for their inaugural classes. These certificates will be offered at Midland University’s Omaha Center, opened earlier in 2017.

The Project Management Certificate program provides experience with some of the most popular concepts, texts, and methodologies used by project management professionals and is built in conjunction with the curriculum of the Project Management Institute. Students will be prepared to take exams for the CAPM or PMP designations, and will earn a Six Sigma Yellow Belt throughout the course of the program.

The Corporate Entrepreneurship Certificate program focuses on bringing an entrepreneurial mindset to an established business. Students will work with corporate entrepreneurs from small and large businesses in the Omaha area to learn how the growth energy of a start-up can lead to similar growth in a more mature company, and will launch projects of their own within their organizations.

Both certificates build upon the foundation of Midland University’s professional MBA program. Courses are graduate level and are often taken alongside MBA students. Certificate graduates will then be able to join the MBA program to seek a degree with several courses already complete. Alumni of the Midland MBA are also able to return to complete a certificate program tuition-free with Midland’s unique MBA for Life program.

“These certificates are an excellent way to help a professional reach their immediate career goals and also build a foundation for further development,” said Dr. Susan Kruml, Vice President for Academic Affairs at Midland University. “The real-world experience provided by our faculty will help ensure they can implement these new skills quickly.”

Each certificate has been developed by a Midland University faculty member with years of experience in his respective field. Andrew Sherwood, a project manager currently with Mutual of Omaha, leads the Project Management Certificate program. He holds multiple project management certifications, including PMP, ACP, CSSBB, and CSM, and has led multiple previous courses in project management with Midland.

Joseph Frost, owner of Frost Media Group and founder of multiple local and national media firms, leads the Corporate Entrepreneurship certificate program. He has founded multiple local and national media firms and has also previously led several courses in marketing and entrepreneurship for Midland.

“The passion our faculty have for their subjects is inspiring,” Kruml said. “Both Andrew and Joe bring valuable experience to the table, and are looking forward to sharing that with their students.”

The inaugural courses for both certificates begin in June, with scholarships available. Prospective students are encouraged to contact the Midland University MBA office at Admissions@MBA.MidlandU.edu for more details or to visit MBA.MidlandU.edu/Certificate.
